Mission Statement
The mission of the Juvenile Protective Association (JPA) is to improve the social and emotional well-being and functioning of vulnerable children so they can reach their fullest potential at home, in school, and in their communities. This is accomplished by providing therapeutic counseling services to at-risk children and families, conducting research, sharing knowledge, and providing expert consultation and guidance to others serving these children and families.
Description
At JPA, we help Chicago’s defenseless children through a life struggle with trauma by building on their strengths and working through difficulties causing distress and vulnerability. JPA's programs/services include: 1) early intervention for parents and young children through supportive psychoeducational groups that foster healthy attachment relationships, provide parents with vital information about child development with a goal of preventing maltreatment; 2) clinical treatment and counseling for individuals, couples, families and groups to ameliorate problems that cause abuse/neglect, or otherwise threaten a child’s well-being and healthy development; 3) consultation to share direct service expertise and experience with public/private agencies that treat high risk children and families; 4) advocacy to support social policy and services that protect children and enhance their development, and to ensure that best interests and constitutional rights are recognized for children and families; 5) research and publication to contribute knowledge to the field; and 6) professional education/technical assistance to train professionals in child welfare, early childhood and developmental psychology.
