Transformative Change (XC) is the first national center entirely dedicated to bridging the inner and outer lives of social change agents, activists and allies to support a more effective, more sustainable movement of social justice for all.
Whether that is in health care reform, education, homelessness, the environment, fair housing, LGBT rights, immigrant rights, women’s rights, rights for people of color, rights for youth...healthy, balanced champions mean rights for everyone.
Our mission is to inform, incite and empower a broad-based, presence-centered transformative social change movement.
Mission-driven and results-oriented, XC is a model for the growing movement toward integration, sustainability and wholeness in the lives of agents of social change.
We believe that when agents of change are supported in living more balanced lives, they are empowered to create more effective, lasting change in the world. Whether that is in health care reform, education, homelessness, the environment, fair housing, LGBT rights, immigrant rights, women’s rights, rights for people of color, rights for youth...healthy, balanced champions mean rights for everyone.
CXC brings the practice of presence to community-based visioning, strategizing and organizing for cohesive, sustainable social transformation. Our daily practice of becoming present to our lives, of bringing our actions into alignment with our best intentions, is both a practical tool for building personal strength, integrity and clarity, and also provides the much needed steady foundation upon which we can build a society that reflects these same attributes. Marrying social activism to a deep, sustained personal practice cultivates the sensibilities in individuals necessary for them to become embodied agents of conscious social change.
CXC provides curriculum and training in inner awareness practices, nonviolent communication skills and community building for social justice activists. Our programs echo the infamous charge to "educate, agitate and organize" made by B.R. Ambedkar, who invited hundreds of thousands of India’s "untouchables" to self-liberation from the debilitating caste system. Only when people work from self-empowerment, can their work be that of true freedom.
We believe change may come easily, but complete transformation requires that we practice changing again and again until we bring that change into alignment through our thoughts, words and actions.
From this solid foundation, we believe we all can give more, do more, and work together better to build a more cohesive, sustainable environment for social transformation here in the Bay Area and across the country.
