To provide the youth of San Diego the opportunity to study, understand and appreciate, through education and participation, the art of ballet, and to enrich the cultural life of the community. Value Statement San Diego Civic Youth Ballet believes everyone should have the opportunity to dance. SDCYB strives to cultivate a learning environment based on integrity and trust and one that values diversity amongst its students, faculty, staff and patrons. SDCYB promotes excellence in all endeavors and a spirit of service to the San Diego community through sustainable practices that prioritize a child’s desire to dance over their ability to pay.
San Diego Civic Youth Ballet (SDCYB) was founded in 1945. For 75 years, SDCYB has offered high-quality, affordable, year-round ballet training in the Casa del Prado studios and produces three major productions at the Casa del Prado Theater each year. There is also an annual Spring & Outreach Showcase of the school and outreach students, as well as the SDCYB Performance Ensemble who perform at special events throughout the community. SDCYB brings dance education to public schools and offers ballet classes for over 750 students through a thriving Community Engagement Program and offers affordable camps and intensives each summer that stress creativity, as well as technique. SDCYB has also offered "Ballet for Me!" - a classical ballet class for children with unique physical needs since 2015.
