Mission Statement

KS Wild is an advocate for the forests, waters, and wildlife of northwest California and southwest Oregon. We use environmental law, science, education, and collaboration to defend healthy ecosystems and help build sustainable communities.

Description

KS Wild’s staff of ten, assisted by canvassers, interns, attorneys, and volunteers, use administrative, legal and outreach tools to further a science-based approach to wildlands conservation.KS Wild’s strategy is four-fold:

  1. Defend forests from damaging timber sales, off-road vehicles, mining, livestock grazing and road-building through project analysis, fieldwork, and litigation;
  2. Build issue-specific campaigns that advance our organizational goals, including roadless area and wildland protection, at-risk species recovery, forest and aquatic restoration, and community sustainability;
  3. Protect and restore public trust waters in southern Oregon’s Rogue River basin via our Rogue Riverkeeper Program’s effective field work and community action; and
  4. Build public support for the work outlined above by educating and mobilizing not only our members but also the general public, non-traditional allies and elected officials.

KS Wild has an impressive track record as a conservation leader in the Pacific Northwest. Through our advocacy, old-growth timber sales, cattle grazing, mining, off-road vehicle misuse and energy development in the Klamath-Siskiyou are monitored, challenged and minimized. Through successful collaboration with natural resource managers and industry, we are shifting a historically "boom-and-bust" culture away from destructive management activities and toward restoration, which benefits both the environment and our communities.
