Babes With Blades Theatre Company uses stage combat to tell stories that elevate the voices of underrepresented communities and dismantle the patriarchy. Through performance, script development, training and outreach, our ensemble creates theatre that explores the wide range of the human experience, and cultivates broader perspectives in the arts community and in society as a whole.
Babes With Blades Theatre Company (BWBTC) serves Chicago’s residents by mounting unique theatrical productions that entertain and challenge our audiences, exposing them to underrepresented, unique voices and stories. Using stage combat as a storytelling tool, we develop and produce new works with dynamic, three-dimensional characters of marginalized identities (female-identifying, gender nonbinary, BIPOC, LGBTQAI+, and more) to the benefit of the Chicago theatrical community and audiences. Through performance, our two script development programs (Fighting Words and Joining Sword & Pen), and training and outreach activities, BWBTC seeks to empower underrepresented groups in a society where marginalized voices are still unheard.
