Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Our mission is to give people with Developmental Disabilities the chance to play the sport of Ice Hockey in an environment which is adapted to the level of ability which the athletes are able to participate. Special hockey exists for the enrichment of the athlete with a developmental disability.
In addition to physical hockey skills, the program emphasizes the development of desirable individual characteristics such as dependability, self-reliance, concentration, willingness to share and personal accountability. The game of hockey is used by Special Hockey to develop within each player the characteristics that will help the player to be more successful both inside and outside a hockey environment.
Columbus Special Hockey is a local team in partnership with the American Special Hockey Association and Columbus Chill Youth Hockey Association. Our program is open to children and young adults who want to learn the sport. We teach our participants everything from how to ice skate to hockey fundamentals.
We are a growth organization doubling in size from 2010-11 to 2011-12. We are on target to expand 100% again this season.
This upcoming season includes events in cooperation with the Blue Jackets, High School programs, and tournaments in NY and Canada just to name a few.
While our team comes together through the sport of ice hockey, our players gain valuable social, mental & emotional skills as well as physical skills.
