Mission Statement

The mission of the Mount Vernon City School District , which celebrates diversity, and is committed to providing a quality and nurturing educational program, is to recognize the uniqueness of each student and allow them to reach their potential through the dedicated services of its staff.

Description

An urban middle school sering approximately 600 students. The population is 80% AFricanAmerican and 17% Latino. We have a large population of recent immigrants from Brazil, Portugal, and Haiti. Over 40% of our students receive public assistance and are eligible for free lunch. We also service approximately 100 students with special needs. Our greatest desire is to increase literacy for all students by minimizing class sizes, increasing teacher support, and providing supplemental services to our students outside of the classroom.
