Mission Statement

The mission of Memphis Oral School for the Deaf is to develop the independent speaking and listening capabilities of hearing-impaired children. The objective is the integration of our children, with the necessary self-confidence and positive image, into their neighborhood schools. Our goal is to enable our students to become a â part ofâ rather than â apart fromâ the world of sound.

Description

The Memphis Oral School for the Deaf has been serving deaf and hard of hearing children in the Mid-South since 1959. The goal of the School is to identify these children early (preferably in the first year of life), fit them with appropriate amplification, and begin training them in how to understand the sound they now can hear. Our curriculum focuses on teaching profoundly deaf children to listen and speak - we use no sign language.
