Description
The Central New York Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.
The Affiliate fundraises throughout the year and annually offers grants for innovative programs that reduce breast cancer mortality, especially among those who are disproportionately affected by this disease. Through a community needs assessment we have identified the following funding priority areas:
1) Programs that are designed to provide increased awareness of free and reduced-cost services, particularly among underserved women.
2) Programs whose goals and methodologies are designed to reach underserved women.
3) Programs that include services to help patients navigate through the continuum of care to insure that they are screened and that those with positive screening findings receive the appropriate follow-up diagnostic and treatment services.
