Mission Statement
The Mission of Ruth Meiers Hospitality House, Inc. is to provide housing and supportive services to assist homeless and low income people in achieving self-sufficiency.
Description
Ruth Meiers Hospitality House, Inc. provides a number of services to low-income and homeless individuals in our community.
As the first female Lieutenant Governor of North Dakota, Ruth Meiers worked to improve the lives of those less fortunate in her community and believed in providing those people with support, inspiration and hope. Thus the Ruth Meiers Hospitality House was established in 1987 in her name. What started out, over 25 years ago, as a small shelter has now grown to include other essential services.
In 2010, Ruth Meiers Hospitality House provided a total of 13,020 nights of shelter to our homeless neighbors - an increase of over 1,608 nights of lodging since in 2009 and 3,293 more nights than in 2008. Also in 2010, every bed in each of our shelters was full 276 out of 365 nights. Because of this steady increase in need for shelter, we've added a drop-in center to our Family Emergency Shelter, providing a comfortable place to sleep, a hot meal and a shower.
