Mission Statement

Black Women of Essence, Inc. (BWOE) is a Non-Profit 501(c)(3) Women of Color Organization. Our vision is to enhance the quality of life by providing resources, services, education, networking opportunities along with advocacy and promoting self-awareness within our communities. We are committed to improving the quality of life in the following areas: Children's Advocacy (mentoring, literacy and tutoring), HIV/AIDS awareness, Domestic Violence Prevention/Awareness and Breast Cancer Awareness.

Description

BWOE was founded in the late spring / early fall of 1999. In February 2002, we incorporated in the State of Florida and in April 2003, we received 501 (c)(3) tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service. BWOE was built on a foundation of Sisterhood that allows us to strengthen, encourage, empower and embrace one another with genuine love. BWOE is comprised of over seventy women who are from different demographics (professional, social, geographic, age, education, economic, religion and race) but we all share the same visions for empowering each other and improving our communities. We welcome all women regardless of racial background, spiritual beliefs or lifestyles as long as they understand and support our mission. We believe when women improve the quality of their lives, the communities to which they contribute also improve. In an effort to promote community awareness, Black Women of Essence, Inc. created local chapters to provide women with the opportunity to meet face to face and fully take advantage of the Sisterly atmosphere that BWOE provides. Local Chapters meet monthly and provide support to various community events that affect Women of Color. Our Local Chapters actively participate in events such as Empowerment Sessions, Breast Cancer Awareness advocacy programs, Domestic Violence advocacy programs, Safe Sex Advocacy programs and various community projects, meetings, conventions, public, social and business gatherings pertaining to empowering and supporting Women of Color.
