Here's a sample of our volunteer opportunities:VIEW AS
Visual Aid Volunteers, Inc. was founded in 1962 "To promote the independence and success of visually impaired persons by providing quality braille materials" by local citizens and educators in Garland, Texas. The organization simply wanted to help blind and sight-impaired children be mainstreamed in a classroom with their sighted peers. Visual Aid Volunteers, Inc. became a 501(c)(3) in 1965 and their braille work continues today.
Visual Aid Volunteers, Inc. believes in "Educating Children Who Are Blind -- One Braille Page At A Time" by creating braille schoolbooks am materials, for students in grades K-12 for the Texas Education Agency, the American Printing House for the Blind and various educational institutions. College scholarships are granted to local sight-impaired students. Eyeglasses are provided for local sight-impaired students. An annual art contest provides positive recognition to local Garland sight-impaired students. Puppies, to be trained for the blind, are sponsored for adoption. Braille is taught to anyone having a desire to learn.
