Mission Statement

The Office of the State Long-Term Care Ombudsman of the Texas Department on Aging and Disability Services advocates for quality of life and quality of care for residents in long-term care facilities. Residents and their families are served by developing and using the talents and efforts of specially trained volunteers, professionals, advocacy and membership organizations and regulatory agencies who are interested in long-term care and elder rights issues.

Description

Learn the rules, regulations and issues pertaining to the Ombudsman Program. Develop an understanding of residents' rights and regulatory issues. Develop skills in the areas specified in order to become qualified to: protect the health, safety, welfare and rights of licensed long-term care facility residents; ensure timely access to a representative of the program; identify, investigate, and resolve complaints made by or on behalf of residents; and support the development of resident and family councils.
