Mission Statement

Presented in the City of Los Angeles within the 52-block boundaries of the Downtown Arts District ... where art in the streets happens every day, BloomfestLA features live indie music, great brews, good food, and eco-friendly fun. No other neighborhood in the City of Los Angeles other than the Downtown Arts District can truthfully boast a community with such a commitment to sustainable living -- after all, where else can you find a place where residents repurposed rundown industrial buildings and transformed them into homes and creative spaces, maintaining them even during unprecedented times of change and neighborhood gentrification?

Named in honor of community activist Joel Bloom (1948-2007), BloomfestLA celebrates all things a’bloomin’ in Downtown Los Angeles -- art, music, and even the environment ... yep, blooms! Juxtaposed against a gray sea of concrete and dusty brick buildings, at various times of the year, visitors can enjoy lavender canopies of blooming jacarandas and yellow sunbursts of Caribbean trumpet trees. Here and there, bougainvillea can be seen heavily laden with fuchsia and coral blossoms, and late at night, the scents of white jasmine flowers and creamy night blooms on Peruvian apple cacti waft through the air, often overpowering even the most pervasive street smells.

Description

One of Southern California’s most popular community events, the FREE BloomfestLA takes place each year on the third Saturday in July in the heart of the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles at 3 rd St. and Traction Ave. Now in its 5 th year and attracting nearly 25,000 attendees, the annual festival includes over 100 arts & crafts exhibitors, live music (two stages this year - one curated by KCRW host Chris Douridas and the other by local artist Alberto Miyares), bike valet stations, local dining, and food trucks. In addition to the Gather Green Scene, it features the new KoolKidZone with music, stories, and art activities for youth and families
