Mission Statement

The mission of the Historical Foundation of Hillsborough and Orange County is to enlighten and engage our community and visitors from around the world by preserving and interpreting the history of Hillsborough and Orange County.

Description

The Foundation was formed in 2007 through the merger of the Hillsborough Historical Society and the Orange County Historical Museum.

Our Goals

  • Operate the Orange County Historical Museum.
  • Collect, preserve, catalog, and house historic artifacts and documents relevant to Hillsborough and Orange County history, applying professional techniques towards this end.
  • Use the foundation’s collections as a tool for educating the public about our history through exhibits, in-house and outreach programs, public lectures, publications, and special events.
  • Make historic documents, artifacts, photographs, and other records available to those researching Hillsborough and Orange County history.
  • Provide support and assistance for historic preservation efforts in Hillsborough and Orange County.

The director of the historical museum would not parcipate in any fresh ideas to improve the museum to make it more friendly to all age groups and diverse languages to help tourism and improve budget by helping make the museum more interesting and easier to make accessibility to the handy cap with all forms of disability and did not make any effort to keep museum open on Last Day of the month on Friday nights during summer months only; when the whole town participated. Tourism in Hillsborough, NC was voted for best small towns to see. However, I worked mainly with the assistant director, Scott Washington. He is an amazing, intelligent, and has dedicated his life to preserving historical buildings and teaching others of the importance to our history. When Scott resigned from his position, I left as well. Scott is wonderful to work with.
