Objectives: Nacel Open Door is a J-1 exchange program sponsor, under the designation of the U. S. Department of State and has a full listing by the CSIET (Council on Standards for International Educational Travel).

Nacel Open Door programs should lead participants to discard stereotypes and discover the realities of other cultures and peoples. To increase awareness of the importance of understanding other cultures and to stimulate interest in community support of language and international education. To offer opportunities for language students to improve communication skills and learn firsthand about the culture of countries sharing their language of study. To support foreign language education in American schools by encouraging students to undertake and continue foreign language study. The personal relationships established through participation in Nacel Open Door programs stimulate interest and provide an added dimension to the study of foreign languages and cultures. To provide well-conceived and well-organized programs which offer affordable opportunities to students and families. To make participation a rewarding experience for both students and host families by providing solid preparation for participants, organized transportation, and a strong support network.
