The Army Division of the New York Guard will assist and support other components of the armed forces and agencies of the State of New York in order to provide the capacity and ability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, and recover from all hazards as ordered by the Governor of the State of New York, and the Department of Military and Naval Affairs.
The 1/9th Battalion can trace its origins to 1624, and the unit received the official designation of the 9th on June 13, 1812. We are one of the oldest military units in the United States.
The 1/9th Battalion of the New York State Guard is part of an all volunteer military force composed of citizen-soldiers who serve in an unpaid status, unless activated by the Governor of New York.
We engage in planning, training for, and executing state emergency support and disaster missions.
