Mission Statement
The Jamaica Plain Historical Society promotes interest in the history of Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts and advocates preservation of historical sites and treasures. The Historical Society aquires, preserves, interprets, and displays historical artifacts and records. It ensures that funds and facilities are available to maintain, store, and exhibit these archives. The Historical Society provides educational experiences for people of all ages through tours, lectures, workshops, outreach programs for schools, publications, and events.
Description
The Jamaica Plain Historical Society sponsors occasional lectures and a regular weekly series of historic walking tours during the summer months. We maintain a small archive of books, maps, photographs, and other materials. The archive is open to members and researchers by appointment. We welcome contributions of historic essays about Jamaica Plain for use in our newsletter and web site. We will help you get started if you are interested in researching a specific Jamaica Plain history topic.
