Mission Statement

Animal Welfare League is dedicated to eliminating the crisis of homeless, mistreated, and abused animals in Washington County by providing shelter, rescue, foster homes, adoption, and low-cost spay/neuter services for the dogs and cats, by providing humane education to pet owners, and by working to improve laws to end animal cruelty.

Description

A group of concerned citizens formed the Animal Welfare League primarily for the purpose of raising funds to construct a shelter for the homeless cats & dogs of Washington County, Mississippi. At one time, the shelter these dogs were going to was killing at least 98% of the animals that came through the doors.

Soon thereafter, due to the exploding overpopulation problem, AWL began rescuing and fostering homeless animals and after having each animal properly vetted (including spay/neuter), AWL then posts pics. of these homeless animals in an attempt to find them forever homes.

AWL realizes that spaying and neutering is the only solution to the excess number of homless animals in Washington County. AWL plans to have educational programs for the community in hopes of gaining community support in their efforts to offer low-cost spay/neuter to the community.
