The Detroit Jewish Coalition for Literacy's mission is to increase the community's involvement in the fight against illiteracy by mobilizing volunteer readers, tutors and book drive organizers.

Description

Over 40% of America's fourth grade students read below grade level. The Detroit Jewish Coalition for Literacy concentrates it's efforts in Detroit and school districts in Oakland County. The DJCL is comprised of member organizations and individuals that partner with area schools. The DJCL facilitates volunteer placement, coordinates training sessions fo volunteers and provides ongoing support and follow-up.
