Mission Statement

Trusted Mentors connects trained volunteer mentors with at risk adults to help more people stay housed and out of prison.

Description

Volunteer mentors join an organization which is passionate about mentoring. They are provided training and a personal interview before being matched one-on-one with an individual or family in a homeless prevention program. On-going support is provided during the match. Volunteers sign up for 6 hours a month for a year and make a lasting impact on the community of Indianapolis.

We mentor three vulnerable populations who face unique challenges including:

  1. Young adults (18-24) who are aging out of foster care, diagnosed with a mental health issue, or young mothers struggling economically. These young adults have a higher likelihood of community disengagement, homelessness or incarceration.
  2. Adults (25 and older) who face unique social-economic or social emotional challenges, e.g., chronic homelessness, suffering substance abuse and/or mental illness.
  3. Adults re-entering the population after incarceration. Mentoring can start pre or post-release for those who desire a supportive network that assists with employment and successful reintegration.
With the support of a mentor, over 90% of our mentees succeed at remaining housed and out of prison.

Mentoring has brought positive changes to my life. I found Trusted Mentor's training program prepared me well to succeed in my mentor role, and I've experienced first hand the efficiency of its proven mentor/mentee matching process and mentor support organization. I fully recommend Trusted Mentors to both experienced mentors and potential mentors that want to make a difference by enabling successful re-entry from incarceration and/or long term homeless prevention.
