Mission Statement

Working closely with parents and communities, we ensure that children within the most isolated families are born healthy, stay healthy and are prepared for school.

Description

For more than two decades Way to Grow has worked successfully with Minneapolis families to
ensure the health, wellbeing and school readiness of their children from birth until kindergarten. In 2011, Way to Grow launched the Great by Eight Campaign: a five-year initiative with the support of Minneapolis Public Schools that expands Way to Grow’s successful--and statistically proven--home-visit model to include children from birth through third grade.

OUR HOLISTIC APPROACH

Home Visits. Many Way to Grow families work multiple jobs, have limited resources (including transportation), and face cultural or other barriers. Home visits, Way to Grow’s delivery of service, address all aspects of family life and early and elementary education. In 2012, Way to Grow’s researched based home visiting curriculum was used in 10,725 home visits.

Early Education. Our family educators engage parents with their children’s education--showing them how to teach through everyday interaction through home visits. In addition to home visits, Way to Grow offers programming for preschool-aged children. Preschool Pals is a center-based class, accredited by NAEYC and is 4-star Parent Aware, that provides programming for 30 children, four days per week.

Health Education & Wellness. Research proves that when children are born healthy, they have fewer development delays through their formative years. Our in-home health and wellness curriculum teaches parents about prenatal care, nutrition, well-child checks and safety.

Family Support Services. As needed, Way to Grow connects families with trusted community partners such as medical and dental clinics, employment agencies, housing services, food shelves, churches, schools, libraries, and many local and state government programs.

Parent Education. Way to Grow offers many group enrichment opportunities for our parents, including Financial Literacy Classes, Prenatal Education Workshops, New Parent Support Groups and Cooking Matters.
