Mission Statement

The Community Table's mission is to serve balanced, nutritious meals in a safe, welcoming environment and to connect those in need with existing resources. We do this by engaging diverse volunteers in service and by fostering partnerships with local organizations. TCT also enlightens the public to issues of hunger in our commuity; and supports efforts of commuity agencies to increase the self-reliance of individuals and families.

Description

We are technically a soup kitchen but anyone who walks through our doors for whatever reason is served a meal, no questions asked. Meals are sponsored by diverse volunteer serving teams -they come from faith communities, businesses, schools and civic groups. Our Kitchen Operations manager provides serving teams with a menu, food preparation plan and the ingredients to prepare meals. Food comes from Feed My People Food Bank, where every dollar spent purchases ten dollars of food. Target fresh produce comes to us through Second Harvest Heartland; in the last six months of 2012 we received over 37,000 pounds of rescued produce. We also receive many local food donations. Each day an On-Site Coordinator is available to assist serving teams and guests, often making referrals for our guests to appropriate local social services. We also daily pack 50 brown bag lunches distributed by a day job service in our city.
