Description
Kitovu Mobile AIDS Organization (Kitovu Mobile) is a Faith Based Organization under the hospices of the "Registered Trustees of Masaka Diocese". It was started by the Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMM) in the year 1987 as a response to the HIV and AIDS crisis in Rakai district. The Organization employs a holistic approach to addressing needs of both the infected and affected people within their communities. The organization’s headquarters are located at the outskirts of Masaka town in Masaka District. It operates in seven Districts of Masaka, Ssembabule, Rakai and Lyantonde, Lwengo, Kalungu and Bukomansimbi. The operational area is predominantly rural and poor, with high rates of HIV and large numbers of people infected and affected by HIV and AIDS who are the beneficiaries. The most vulnerable include PLHA, orphans & other vulnerable children and widows etc. The main goal of the program is to alleviate the suffering caused by HIV and AIDS among individuals, families, and communities across Masaka, Rakai, Lyantonde and Ssembabule districts. The programme was founded with an aim of working in the rural areas because there the sick have little or no access to health care. Hospitals are too far and expensive to reach, and the local health centres have few if any drugs. Hence, most of the home care areas are far from the main roads and deep in the villages. Kitovu Mobile employs a holistic approach in mitigating the psychosocial, economic and health consequences of HIV and AIDS among the targeted communities. The areas of thematic focus include: Prevention; Care and support plus Capacity Building.
