To provide a community-based, community-supported, economically viable and consumer-oriented, quality transportation service for seniors and adults with visual impairment.
ITN imagines a day when all seniors and adults with visual impairment will have transportation when they want it.
Senior transportation is a complex problem that touches every family in America. In fact, it touches every family in every industrial country in the world. We must think of senior transportation as a lifelong need for which we must plan, just as we plan for retirement or long-term care needs. There are many older adults who restrict their driving because of changes in vision, weather, or traffic, and over time become increasingly isolated - or dependent on the goodwill of family or friends to be available to offer a ride. The Independent Transportation Networkis more than a "good cause," it's a necessary one; it's an important one. We do substantially more than provide rides for older people. We're helping to solve a huge social need. Seniors now have an alternative to driving that preserves their independence even as it ensures our roads are safe and our communities are healthy.
ITN uses a combination of paid and volunteer drivers to guarantee a ride 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and to provide the kind of dependable service people need to be truly independent and safe.
ITN volunteers and drivers provide door-through-door and arm-though-arm assistance. They carry packages, buckle seat belts, and open doors. All ITN volunteers and drivers are carefully screened and trained
