Mission Statement

The Young Women's Health Conference is a unique experience designed for young women, by young women. The YHWC aims to inspire and empower young women with information and support so that they can make wise decisions about their health, well-being and future endeavors.

Description

The Annual Young Women's Health Conference (YWHC) is co-sponsored by the UCSF National Center of Excellence in Women's Health and California State Senator Jackie Speier, and is in collaboration with three local school districts and multiple youth-serving agencies. The goal of the YWHC is to provide resources and information on a wide range of health topics so that young women are empowered with the knowledge and resources to make wise decisions about their health, well-being and future endeavors. The conference features workshops, an exhibit hall, and keynote presentations by women who serve as role models through sharing their inspiring stories of success and perseverance. The conference draws about 1,200 young women each year from San Francisco and San Mateo counties. The rich diversity of young women who attend the conference represents the diversity - and complexity - of young women in the Bay Area. Participants come from public and private high schools, alternative schools, group homes, as well as community-based organizations that work with young women. The YWHC not only addresses important health issues that are often not discussed in school, but it is also an inspiring and rare opportunity for young women to be surrounded by so many of their peers and from such a variety of backgrounds.
