Mission Statement

We believe that children have an absolute right to safety and non-violence. We further believe that childhood sexual violence is rooted in the misuse of power and is an oppressive form of abusive power. Therefore, we believe that the elimination of childhood sexual abuse is linked with the elimination of all other forms of oppression, whether local or global, such as sexism, racism, classism, anti-Semitism and homophobia. The Healing Circle, Inc. is actively working against all forms of oppression while simultaneously creating safe environments for all children, for ourselves, or communities, and our world.

Description

The Healing Circle is a community-based organization dedicated to the healing of childhood sexual violence. Our major purpose is to intentionally create safe communities for children who are the survivors of sexual abuse. For the past 17 years we have offered Victory Over Child Abuse (VOCA) Camps for child survivors. VOCA Camps are similar to traditional camps; there is swimming, fishing, campfires and arts and crafts. However, we provide each child with their own âbuddieâ  , a trained, safe volunteer. We also provide year-round services to child campers through our Mentoring Program. Our Mentor Program is an extenstion of camp services - providing each child with a â  buddieâ  all year long. Our volunteers spend an average of 8 hours with their mentee each month, doing such things as hiking, swimming, fishing, sharing meals, scrapbooking, attending plays and talking. The Healing Circle serves both boys and girls ranging in age from 6 - 18.
