Description

Since 1986, the Arts & Humanities Council has nurtured Bainbridge Island culture by providing programs and community education in response to Bainbridge Island’s cultural needs as well as coordination and advocacy for local nonprofit arts and humanities organizations.

Our work includes:

Supplying funding for cultural organizations through our grant and award programs.

Recognizing Bainbridge Islanders who contribute to our vibrant cultural life with the Island Treasure Awards, and supporting emerging young artists in the performing and visual arts with the Amy Awards.

Displaying poems by local writers for the enjoyment of the entire community during our National Poetry Month celebration.

Showcasing cinema with a Bainbridge connection at the annual Celluloid Bainbridge Film Festival.

Fostering the understanding of critical current events through Great Decisions, co-sponsored with the Bainbridge Public Library.

Highlighting local cultural events and opportunities in Currents, our quarterly arts magazine delivered to every island household.

Facilitating extraordinary art in public spaces with the City’s Public Art Program.

Providing free professional development and support for local artists and art organizations through Arts & Humanities Roundtables,Cultural Reps monthly meetings, the island-wide Cultural Calendar, fiscal agency, and hosting of the Washington Lawyers for the Arts Legal Clinic.
