Mission Statement
The Ryan Phua Memorial Fund is a fund established within the Lance Armstrong Foundation to honor Ryan Phua who died suddenly at two and a half years old and to support cancer survivorship programs for the San Francisco Bay Area.
Description
In June of each year, the Ryan Phua Memorial Kids' Ride provides a unique opportunity for children twelve and under to ride on the same course as the pro riders in Downtown Burlingame and learn the value of giving back to their community by raising funds for local cancer programs. The ride honors the short life of Ryan Phua who died at 2.5 years old to Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood. Ryan was born after his father survived cancer. Each child feels like a champion as they cross the finish and receive an ice cream and ribbon for their efforts. As a family, Ryan's family continues to feel it is important to celebrate Ryan's life, tell their story and bring awareness to survivorship issues of not only cancer but hope in facing the challenges that life brings. In June 2004, with over 2,500 spectators, nearly 500 children twelve and under celebrated Ryan's spirit and championed across the finish. Join us and rally around children and their families and create fun, life-long memories on Sunday, June 26, 2005.
