Mission Statement

The San Diego Asian Film Foundation (SDAFF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating the community about the rich diversity of the Asian Pacific Islander culture through films and videos. The premiere event of the SDAFF is its annual film festival in October. One of our goals is to build stronger ties with area schools to foster discussion and education about Asian Cinema. The SDAFF offers student internships, cultural literacy programs with area high schools and colleges, and a nurturing environment for artists in San Diego. Throughout the year, we hold special events such as our Korean Cinema Showcase and Performers Showcase that highlight Asian and Asian American cultures and talents.

The San Diego Asian Film Foundation is a nonprofit corporation formed in 2002. Before being our own organization, SDAFF began as an annual film festival in August 2000, organized by the Asian American Journalists Association of San Diego. AAJA teamed up with filmmakers, artists, educators, and community groups and leaders to present the first SDAFF at the University of San Diego. Since then, the festival has grown into its own non profit organization, hence the San Diego Asian Film Foundation. We serve our community and Asian American artist by meeting demands for diverse arts programs in the region. We've just celebrated our 5th annual film festival with more than 9,000 in attendance. The San Diego Asian Film Festival has gained an international reputation as one of North America's premiere Asian American film festivals for our excellent programs, outreach to the community, and support for independent artists.
