Mission Statement

Cornerstone’s mission is to work with its participants and their families so that participants may continue to live at home and in their communities in the least restrictive setting as long as possible. It has long recognized the need for advance planning in caring for vulnerable populations, especially those with beginning cognitive impairments and encourages participant families to put in place appropriate advanced directives before they are needed. Cornerstone has a long history of collaboration with agencies providing care to elders and older adults with disabilities and staff work closely with case management agencies, home care programs, nursing facilities, senior centers, public program staff and others to fulfill its mission.

Description

As an additional community service to the elderly population in Rhode Island, Cornerstone administers the RI Volunteer Guardianship Program ("VGP"). Since 2001, the VGP has provided Volunteer Guardians to low income, elderly Rhode Islanders who are dementia afflicted and in need of a substitute decision maker for healthcare related purposes. Cornerstone Adult Services has successfully managed the VGP since January of 2009 through sponsorship by the RI Division of Elderly Affairs.
