Mission Statement

Telem is a nonprofit providing children of African descent an opportunity to celebrate their cultural heritage, invoke a sense of pride in their ancestry, and increase their self esteem through recreational camping activities, cultural and educational programs throughout the year.

Description

Telem Programs Include:

  • Telem Camp Three day cultural camp for children ages five to sixteen. Activities include arts and crafts, radio, photography, public speaking and service-learning workshops, African dance and drumming, swimming and sports.
  • Educational Enrichment Programs Programs to promote academic achievement including tutoring and SAT preparation
  • Cultural Events Programs Events to promote and celebrate African culture including museum trips, cooking classes, African dance,
  • Community Building Programs Programs to build community among Telem members and the greater community, including Family Day
  • Leadership Development Program Programs to develop young leaders including radio workshops.
