"Bringing Louisiana’s Maritime History to Life," is the driving mission of the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum. Located on the banks of the scenic Tchefuncte River in Madisonville, the LPB Maritime Museum takes you on a historic journey through maritime Louisiana.
The Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum brings Louisiana's maritime history and culture to life with hands-on exhibits and programs, Museum exhibits include a reproduction experimental submarine Pioneer, videos, displays of waterways, model ships, lighthouses, and historic boats. The historic 1880's lighthouse keepers cottage is on display at the museum as well as the Tchefuncte river lighthouse. Each October, the LPBMM hosts the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival with over 30,000 people attending the two day event. Field trips and summer camps, including an Aquatics Robotics summer camp, provide additional educational opportunities.
