Mission Statement

Established in 1931, the nonprofit Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the world's foremost authority in gemology. GIA's mission is to ensure the public trust in gems and jewelry by upholding the highest standards of integrity, academics, science, and professionalism through education, research, laboratory services, and instrument development.

Description

Because of the Institute's reputation and authoritative work in the field of gemology, it receives numerous requests for tours of the campus. GIA offers both adult and school tours. Adult groups learn about GIA and its history, tour a portion of its beautiful 18-acre campus including: the education wing, library, current exhibits, and bookstore. School children in grades 4 through 12 come to GIA to discover the world of gemology. They become Junior Gemologists as part of a program that supports their school science curriculum. This hands-on, interactive program allows students the opportunity to use tools of the trade to examine real gemstones.
