Casting for Recovery, Inc. is a 501(c) (3) national non-profit established in 1996 whose mission is to provide support and education to breast cancer survivors. We provide a Quality of Life retreat program for women who are at any age or stage of treatment and/or recovery from breast cancer. The focus of each Casting for Recovery retreat is on providing a safe haven where women can explore post-diagnosis concerns while they learn a new skill that offers therapeutic physical and mental benefits. Using fly-fishing instruction that exercises areas affected by radiation and/or surgery, combined with counseling and medical education, the retreat promotes cancer coping skills and is provided at no cost to participants. We are committed to socioeconomic and cultural diversity.
Since 1996, we’ve helped over 5,000 women reach toward hope and healing. Each day more than 600 women are newly diagnosed with breast cancer, according to current statistics. Our program attracts three applicants for every spot we have available--the need for Casting for Recovery continues to grow.
In 2012, our retreats will take place in 32 states. Casting for Recovery relies on the enthusiasm and support of volunteers to plan for and conduct our retreats under the direction of the national staff, as well as arrrange fundraising events, conduct outreach in the communities, and serve as advocates for breast health. Volunteers can serve all year round in various capacities and levels of involvement. We provide clearly defined volunteer roles and an opportunity to work with a team of dedicated people, both women and men.
