Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity is dedicated to eliminating poverty housing using the principle of partnership. Habitat makes the dream of home ownership a reality for people living in substandard housing by selling volunteer-built homes with a no-interest, no-profit mortgage. Families are required to invest an average of 450 hours of 'sweat equity' by joining with volunteers in helping to build their own home and the homes of other Habitat families. Families are selected on the basis of need, willingness to partner, and sufficient income to make the small mortgage payment. Habitat homes are privately funded through donations from churches, individuals, corporations and service clubs.

Description

The VISTA members will help organize the systems needed to construct homes more efficiently and to make full use of the volunteer help that is available locally. They will help to locate and obtain local resources, both monetary and in-kind. They will also assist in improving community knowledge and involvement in Habitat throughout the state. The major goal is the implementing of systems and the training of volunteers to administer those systems. Some tasks include: Improving coordination of volunteers serving in Habitat activities, expanding public knowledge of Habitat for Humanity, and assisting local boards in implementation of administrative systems.
