Mission Statement

Brighton Firefighters do more than just respond to emergencies --- we are constantly striving to prevent fires, injuries, and emergencies by educating kids and adults alike about home and workplace safety, escape plans, carbon monoxide poisoning, burn prevention, and what to do if an emergency happens. We would be happy to talk with you, your family or co-workers, your classroom, or your association about these issues and more.

The Brighton Fire Department, Inc. founded in 1925, serves the eastern two-thirds of the Town of Brighton and the northwestern portion of the Town of Pittsford. The Town of Brighton is a suburb just east of Rochester, NY. The Brighton Community is largely residential. But we also have a wide array of development that has taken place over the years. Many apartment, medical, nursing, elderly care, office and high-rise complexes been built on what was farmland of yesteryear. Brighton has the distinction of having several major traffic routes in and out of Rochester. Route 441 brings traffic in from the Penfield/Walworth area. Route 96 and Route 31 from the Pittsford/Perinton area. We cover both the 490/590 and 390/590 interchanges as well as major portions of Routes 490 and 590. Some of the busiest highways in Monroe County. The Brighton Fire Department is currently staffed by more than 85 volunteers belonging to 3 companies or stations. The Brighton Fire District also employs career firefighters, 4 career Lieutenants, a District Director, four public safety dispatchers, a PC Specialist/ Communications Supervisor to maintain and provide 24-hour staffing. Most of the career staff work a four group 10/14 system. We respond to nearly 2200 calls each year. These calls range from Fire Suppression, Rescue, Emergency Medical (First Responder), Hazardous Materials. Our members train at both the company and department level several times each month in order to maintain proficiency in their skills. The department is funded by an annual fund drive.
