Description
The Bexar County Probate Court conducts a Court Visitor Program pursuant to
Section 648 of the Texas Probate Code. In this program, the Court-appointed
volunteers personally visit wards and interview guardians as well as other
professionals involved in the care of the ward.
The Bexar County Probate Court supervises the welfare of those individuals
whom the Court has declared legally incapacitated and in need of a guardian
for such reasons as:
Developmental disabilities
Dementia
Chronic Mental Illness
Chronic Chemical Dependency
Under 18-years-old
Head Injury
Court Visitors will act as advocates for persons living with disabilities
and ensure they are treated humanely and their needs are being met. Court
Visitors will have the opportunity to learn about the Bexar County Probate
system. Court Visitors will gain assessment experience while working with a
diverse population of individuals living with disabilities. Court Visitors
will increase their knowledge and experience with a range of mental
illnesses, medical terminology, and medications.
Court Visitors will learn about a variety of treatment settings such as:
Nursing Homes
Group Homes
State Schools
Foster Homes
Private Residence
