Mission Statement

State Operated Services, in partnership with others, provides innovative and responsive behavioral health care to people with complex needs and challenges, some of whom may present substantial safety risks.

Description

State Operated Forensic Services, part of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, consists of statewide programs providing evaluation and treatment to individuals involved with the legal system due to a crime. These programs serve people committed, under Minnesota Statutes, Chapter 253B, to the Commissioner of Human Services as Mentally Ill and Dangerous (MI&D) or as a person with developmental disabilities diagnosed with mental retardation or related condition who presents a public safety risk. Also served are people with mental illness who the court has ordered for evaluation and treatment, under Minnesota Rules of Criminal Procedure, 20.01 and 20.02, before the start of a criminal trial.
