Mission Statement
The Newport News Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and the Victim Services Unit must continue to play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for the citizens of Newport News. We will accomplish this goal through the effective and fair prosecution of defendants and the passionate and respectful treatment of victims and witnesses. Additionally, we will move beyond the traditional, reactive role of a prosecutor’s office by taking a proactive and preventative approach to the reduction of crime.
Description
The Victim Services Unit provides caring, competent, and compassionate services to victims and witnesses of crime in the City of Newport News. We work very closely with the victim/witness to make sure they are kept informed, have an undertanding of and support in the criminal process, and make referrals to services they may need to help restore normalcy to their lives. We also work very closely with the prosecutor to make sure the victim/witness is kept informed and remains an intergral part of the proseuction.
