The horses love attention, and volunteers are welcome to brush them and spend time with them. If you are experienced rider, there are horses who need exercise and training. Of course we always need and appreciate stall muckers and anyone willing to help with general farm labor and maintenance. Also need volunteers for fundraising, grant writing and organizational duties.

Queen of Hearts Thoroughbred Retirement is looking for volunteers to help with fundraising events, writing grants and other aspects of helping to offset the costs of caring for nine horses. Volunteers should have a passion for horses, and also be skilled with social media, computers and be able to find creative solutions to the ongoing flow of cash into the manure pile! The cost of caring for horses seems to increase every year, and we want to be able to keep feeding and caring for them for many years to come. We have lots of great ideas for fundraisers, but need people with the skills, knowledge and time to help us to make them successful.

We need volunteers to help care for the horses. Our main volunteer will be having surgery soon and will not be able to work, and the owner will be working out of state to try to pay for the expenses of the horses so we need to train people and form a team to give the horses the best care possible.

Hi! Here at Queen of Hearts Thoroughbred Retirement, we have nine retired thoroughbred racehorses and a cute shetland pony who all need lots of attention! They need to be groomed, bathed, worked with and loved. We are looking for people who can take shifts of feeding, cleaning stalls, turning in and out. These shifts take place from 6 to 9 am for breakfast shift, lunch is at 1, pm shift from 5 to 7, and night check at 8:30. Between morning and lunch shift is when we have time to groom and play with the horses. We also need volunteers who can help with general farm chores such as cleaning out water buckets, fixing fences, shoveling snow in winter, raking paddocks in summer. If hands on physical work with horses is not for you, we can also use help with grant writing, fundraising and promotional work. Please call or text 207-432-0929 if you are interested!
