Mission Statement
The Donor Sibling Registry Purpose: - Create an environment that allows siblings and donors, through mutual consent, to connect and learn more about their genetic origin and offspring; - To produce materials to support both those who intend to or have started to tell their children at a very young age the truth about their genetic origins and also those who had originally planned not to tell, but now as their children become teenagers or young adults, face the need to do so; - Provide a supportive environment that facilitates discussion and establishes a clearer understanding of the importance of the donor process; - Assist donor conceived children and adults in exercising their freedom and right to become informed citizens and determine their place and role in society
Description
The Donor Sibling Registry History: The DSR was started by myself (Wendy) and my son (Ryan), a donor conceived child . Certain that other donor offspring would have the same curiosity as Ryan about his genetic origins -- yet also knowing that that, sadly, no public outlet existed for mutual consent contact between DI relatives, a registry seemed like a logical place to create an environment for such connections So, in the Fall of 2000, the DSR was launched with the very first posting at the Yahoo Group site. The actual Registry (www.donorsiblingregistry.com) was then launched in October of 2003.
