Mission Statement

YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.

Description

The YWCA actively serves as an advocate and resource to the community on issues that impact women. This YWCA has been a source of devotion, support and empowerment for hundreds of women and young girls in our community.

The YWCA draws together members who strive to create opportunities for women's growth, leadership, and power in order to attain a common vision: peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all people.

The YWCA provides services to the community that includes fitness classes, computer classes, domestic violence prevention and parenting classes, employment search assistance, GED tutoring, a computer lab, a professional/personal development library, and monthly USDA Food disribution.

The YWCA Virginia Peninsula also distributes business attire through "My Sister's Closet". Women referred to "My Sister's Closet" will receive a suit and/or coordinating separates for job interviews and subsequent employment. The YWCA will provide follow-up services by offering career and personal development classes and career mentoring. We envision each client becoming a success story, as she grows to self-sufficiency.
