Mission Statement

Each year, many children in Galveston County have their lives destroyed by abuse. Unfortunately, our criminal and civil justice systems (designed for adults) can inadvertently add to the suffering of child victims and their families. Lack of coordination and cooperation among the agencies involved in this process can create confusion and distress for the child and family. The mission of the National Children's Advocacy Center is to model and promote excellence in child abuse response and prevention.

Description

Children's Advocacy Centers The primary goals of the Advocacy Center are: 1. To reduce the trauma to child victims when they must be involved in a criminal justice process which can add to that trauma; 2. To promote emotional healing so victims and non- offending family members can lead healthy and productive lives; and 3. To keep our communities safe by holding offenders accountable for their crimes against children. The once fragmented approach to investigating, prosecuting and treating child abuse in our county is now a coordinated, collaborative effort to ensure that victims are minimally traumatized by the system, healing is initiated and offenders are held accountable.
