Mission Statement

The mission of the Brooker Creek Preserve Environmental Education Center is to empower citizens to make informed decisions about natural and cultural resources. Center programs interpret the natural and cultural history of the area in order to demonstrate the balance between our needs and the needs of natural Florida.

Description

Works in the Friends of Brooker Creek Preserve Gift Shop assisting customers, writing sales receipts for purchases, and accepting payment for purchases. Credit card purchases are done through Paypal, so willingness to learn a simple computer application is necessary.

The cash drawer opening and closing procedures do not require the volunteer to balance the drawer, simply to count out the cash drawer for the next day and put the remainder of the money and receipts into a sales bag.

Volunteer may also re-stock shelves, discuss suggestions for additional merchandise from visitors. The Gift Shop is non-profit, and proceeds earned are spent at Brooker Creek Preserve. Because business depends on traffic to the Preserve, there will be slow times. You can take advantage of these slow times learning more about the Preserve (the shop is next to theResourceCenterwhich is full of books about nature), or doing personal reading, etc. The only requirement is that the volunteer must remain in the Gift Shop area to keep any eye on things and assist customers.

Shifts are either 9 - 12:30 or 12:30 - 4 on Thursdays, Fridays, or Saturdays.

Any volunteer interested in taking on further duties for the Gift Shop should discuss their interests with the Gift Shop Manager.
