Mission Statement

Philosophy of the Heldeberg Workshop: Our goal is to provide each child and teacher with an "Adventure in Learning." We do not wish to duplicate the atmosphere or activities of the regular school program; instead, we want you (the teachers) to use your own creativity to help children both to experience adventure and discovery and to use their own imaginations. Creativity is a key ingredient in the teaching/learning process at the workshop. We encourage individuality, both yours and your students'. Classes should be friendly and informal. Underlining our philosophy and program are respect and appreciation for the natural environment. To this end, we would like each child in every class to experience the beauty and diversity of the Workshop Land.

Description

The Heldeberg Workshop is a summer day program for children ages 6 and up. Classes in the areas of science, art, folk arts, theatre, and high adventure are taught in 1 and 2 week sessions during the summer on our property in Voorheesville, NY that sits beneath the Heldeberg Escarpment. Classes are 3 hours long and run in the mornings from 9 AM till Noon. With limited electricity and other facilities available, our classes tend to focus on the abundant nature that is available right on the workshop land.
