Description

Starseed (more formally, the Starseed Center for Yoga, Meditation & Shamanism) is an educational center founded by Jyoti Chrystal, R.Y.T.* and Jason Martin, Ph.D., R.Y.T. in Montclair, New Jersey in 1991. In 1998, Starseed established the Starseed Educational Company (hereinafter, à ¢à  à  SECà ¢à  à  ) as an autonomous 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable foundation, which along with its parent organization serves about 1,500 individuals each month, primarily from northern New Jersey as well as New York City. Included in this constituency are physicians, social workers, attorneys, media professionals, homemakers, youth-at-risk, entrepreneurs, students, laborers, expectant mothers and families in transition. MISSION SECà ¢à  à  s mission is two-fold. Firstly, it is the creation of a yoga-based program of recovery from substance abuse. This program comprises the Starseed Recovery Community and the Starseed Recovery Residential & Aftercare Leadership Training, a model of learning, healing and mutual support for the recovery process that addresses physical, psychosocial and spiritual roots of substance use problems. This is accomplished primarily through the introduction of the healing practices of yoga and meditation into the local recovery communities. Secondly, SEC aims to provide material aid to those indigenous communities in need of support, to promote and maintain the integrity of their societies and cultures in the United States as well as abroad. Our current programs are with a community in the Amazon rainforest of Peru, and a school for Tibetan refugees located in Rawalsar, Himachal Pradesh, India.
