Mission Statement

The mission of iCan Bike is to teach individuals with disabilities to ride a conventional two wheel bicycle and become lifelong independent riders. This achievement, in turn, creates a gateway of opportunity, helping them gain assurance and self-reliance in many other aspects of their lives.

We do this via week-long camps held throughout the year. Using adapted equipment, trained professionals, and volunteers, our riders have 75 minutes of daily instruction over five days. What is truly amazing is that over 80% of the disabled campers learn to ride a conventional bicycle independently by the end of the week!

Volunteering with iCan Bike in Lincroft was an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone who is interested in working with children with disabilities. Volunteers are paired with the same child throughout the length of the program so they are really able to see the progress that the child makes. It is amazing to see a child make so much progress (often to the point where they lose their training wheels entirely) in only five days. The program was very well run and I will definitely be volunteering again in the future!
