Mission Statement

Jumpstart is working toward the day that every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.

Description

The Problem: Each year, one third of America’s children arrive at their first day of school without the skills necessary to succeed at grade level. When children begin behind their peers catching up is difficult and unlikely. Children who miss out on key cognitive, social and emotional experiences are more likely to repeat grades, drop out of school, and engage in criminal activity.

What Jumpstart Readers Do : Jumpstart Readers volunteer for 1-2 hours a week in local preschools serving children from disadvantaged families to promote literacy and prepare children for kindergarten.

This is a small time commitment, but will make a large difference in the lives of the most vulnerable and valuable members of our community!
