Our mission is to provide children, youth and families with quality, comprehensive services to nurture healthy family life and enhance community stability.
La Causa, Inc. was founded in 1972 on Milwaukee’s south side by a group of Hispanic women who had shared the same vision: to create Milwaukee’s first nonprofit bilingual child care center -- a place that would care for and nurture young children, while also honoring their Spanish language and cultural heritage. These women chose La Causa as its name, meaning The Cause.
Today, La Causa is a multifaceted multicultural non-profit organization that provides an array of valuable programs and services to thousands of diverse individuals living in high-risk, often impoverished neighborhoods. All of La Causa’s programs and services revolve around child and parent education, treatment services, and child-abuse prevention.
Celebrating 40 years of service to the community in 2012, La Causa provides an array of vital services and programs that help support and improve the quality of life for this community’s children and families. Many of the families we serve are among the area’s poorest, living well below the poverty line. All efforts remain firmly focused on the wellbeing of children -- academically, emotionally, and physically. La Causa employs 285 committed, quality staff who provide a broad range of family-centered services, such as an Early Education and Care Center featuring Head Start programs, a successful K4-8th grade Charter School, a full service Social Services division that specializes in Treatment Foster Care and WRAP-Around Services, and a Crisis Nursery & Respite Center (CN/RC) division that helps protect children at risk for abuse or neglect.
